Character AI NSFW: Why It's Filtered and What to Use

Character.AI doesn't allow sexual content. Its rules prohibit it, and a filter steers or blocks replies when a conversation heads that way. That is a deliberate product decision for a platform built for a broad audience and distributed through app stores, not a bug that will be “fixed” for adults.

So if you enjoy the characters but want adult scenes, the honest answer is that you need a different product, one built for consenting adults from the start.

People share prompts that claim to get around the filter. We don't recommend them, and not only on principle:

• They break the platform's terms, which can cost you your account and your chat history.
• They stop working whenever the filter is updated, often mid-scene.
• The writing gets worse: a model fighting its instructions produces vague, hedged replies, not good fiction.

Characters don't transfer between platforms, but you can rebuild one quickly. Write a short character card and paste it into your first message, or into a custom-character feature where one exists:

• Name, age, and role. Always clearly an adult.
• Personality in behaviour. “Teases first, apologises never” works better than “playful”.
• How they talk. Message length, slang, punctuation, emoji or none.
• Your shared history and where the story left off.
• Boundaries you both keep.
